Cabling System Specs Required by Infotel Systems

Preface

The job is being bid or was sold by either the electrician or Infotel Systems. Either way, the electrician is pulling the cable and Infotel is doing all terminations at each end.

The above applies.

1) Customer Homework

  • goes to both electrician and service123@infotelsystems.com (with a nice note as in what are we doing)
  • Supply a floor map as a CAD or PDF file showing jack placement as standard diamond icons. It’s what architects do in new build outs.
  • Provide a cable or cable pair count.
  • General contractor
    • advise us of an electrical permit and provide us that permit number
    • Who is the GC and what is their cell phone?

2) The electrician gets the permit

The electrician / cable installer gets the permit. Always be prepared and get a permit if you are told so or are working from electrical plans

3) The electrician roughs in the cable

To a single gang

  • box stubbed to the ceiling
  • mud ring and a string to the ceiling.

Cable Lables are not needed. Infotel has a special device that will trace all cables and number them. No labeling saves you time and money!

Cable colors as follows. Use the cable we supply if we sold the job or purchase for jobs over 24 cables.

  • Blue = data.
  • White = voice
  • Red or Yellow = security cameras (optional)

Run two cables. One for voice and one for data. This provides for the best VoIP telephone system performance. If we are doing your job, we will terminate whatever you run!

Cables not on a plan?

  • Install jack furthest from the door.
  • Not under a window unless it has a conduit stub.

Cubicles (two options)

  • require a long bundle out of a wall so they can be laced into the cubicles upon build.
  • or we install 8 outlet jacks at the designated edge of the cubicle as it touches the wall. We use patch cables at cubicle install.

Cable finish at the device jack

  • 12” of cable out of any single gang box for devices such as a phone or computer
  • 12” out of a hole for a ceiling wifi device or security camera.

Cable finish at the patch panel

  • If the cable bundle drops from the ceiling, take it to the floor and go 4 feet more. If from the floor, reverse that!
  • Cables must drop over a soft bend such as a long 4″ PVC tube stuck in the ceiling joints.
  • They must be combed straight and wire tied so they are neat when we get there. Make a neat sausage.

4) Ready for terminations notice to service@infotelsystems.com. We are light weight. Not messy. We promise. We require at this stage…

  • Walls must be painted so we can install a jack plate.
  • Carpet must be laid. We fear and respect carpet installers.
  • No unnecessary trades in the data closet area.
  • GC has provided us a weeks  window of time for the jacks
  • The frame comes soon after and is usually just before move in time.

5) Primary contact is sent a link to our service system with the entire schedule. It is a dynamic link, it always shows what is.

Terminations and Frame

6) We will terminate the jack ends first. We use multi-outlet communication jacks wall plates – in white.

2 outlet (Dual)

4 outlet (Quad)

6 outlet

7) Telecom Backboard – We ask the  GC to install a telecom backboard

  • A 4′ x to  8′ 5/8″ plywood sheet installed tall with the top edge hitting the ceiling.
  • Install dedicated 15 amp quad outlet 2″ to 6″ from top in corner of sheet.

8) The frame will be a wall rack unless a floor rack is specified

Notes and such

Office furniture vendors

  • If you see a 15 foot coil of cable, don’t cover it! Uncoil it, lay it on the floor, place furniture over cable.
  • If the office furniture has designed single gang jacks, run the cable through the furniture and out the box.
  • We will groom the cable into the furniture
